Viewpoints: Physical Sciences Deals Award Goes to Idaho National Laboratory + Ridgetop Group
LES announced the recipients of its Deals of Distinction™ Awards in five industry sectors: Physical Sciences, Brands As A Business, High-Tech, Industry-University-Government Interface and Life Sciences. Now in its twentieth year, the annual program recognizes companies that orchestrate the year’s most outstanding licensing and business deals in each sector. The awards were presented during the LES Annual Meeting Business Luncheon on October 21, 2024. Key dealmakers were on hand to provide insights on their winning deals.
Dealmakers: Idaho National Laboratory + Ridgetop Group
Presented by Nicki Kennedy, LES Co-Vice Chair of Physical Sciences to Ryan Bills, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) & Wyatt Pena, Ridgetop Group Inc.
Why it won…
In a deal that advances battery development, Ridgetop Group, Inc. (Ridgetop) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced an Exclusive Product Distribution Agreement for the Advanced Electrolyte Model (AEM) developed by Dr. Kevin Gering at INL.
AEM is one of the first scientifically proven modeling tools to explore molecular-level interactions to simulate, diagnose, and predict electrolyte attributes through an exhaustive list of properties. This innovative technology has been successfully applied to significantly reduce the time required to characterize and optimize electrolytes for Li-Ion and Na-Ion battery applications. The data-rich outputs from AEM are used to screen, characterize, and optimize electrolyte systems and to support transport modeling of batteries. Non-battery applications can also be served.
Through this new agreement, Ridgetop and INL will work together to enhance AEM’s commercial utility and drivability by developing a modern Graphical User Interface (GUI) and related output features. This supports the joint initiative of making AEM available to the global battery research community, where the tool can play a crucial role in developing next-generation batteries.
AEM complements Ridgetop’s existing CellSage product line and builds upon Ridgetop and INL’s joint business and technology collaboration exercises that started in 2015. Together, the goal is to develop and commercialize new and proven technologies that support battery health modeling, diagnostics, and optimization for target applications and missions.
